Youth Conference Competitions

YOUTH CONFERENCE DESIGN COMPETITION GUIDELINES

Guidelines:

    • Entrant must be a registered participant of the TNT Youth Conference.
    • Entrant is responsible for setting up/striking exhibits
    • Entrant must submit a completed Entry Form, with payment by May 10, 2024.
    • Display elements are the responsibility of the Entrant.
    • Entrant must use the selected shows – listed below – for their design elements.
    • Entrant may enter any/or all categories with any show combination but not exceed 3 entries.
    • Judging will take place in a designated area and all design competitors will be requested to attend to receive an oral critique from the judge.
    • 5 awards handed out by the Judges at the Awards Assembly
    • 5 Honorable Mentions at the Awards Assembly

Entry Fees:

Fees: $5 per entrant, per category – payable by the theatre at registration.

One Entry is defined as one full design or no more than 3 Designs total from one production.

Example A: ONE Entry – Costume Design for females in “ROMEO & JULIET” Display should include: one complete outfit and examples of others in photos, drawings or collages.

Example B: ONE Entry – Ancestor hats from “THE ADDAMS FAMILY”

Example C: ONE Entry – Props for “LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS”

Categories:

Costumes – Full Costume, Millinery, Accessories, Makeup, Hair/Wigs

Scenic Design (Set, Lights, etc.) – Painting, Soft Scenery, Props, Special F/X

Promotions (Graphics/Media) – Posters/Flyers, Brochures, Web design, Programs

Displays:

Space is limited; please confine the overall display not to exceed ONE 6 foot table

Electrical outlets are not guaranteed

Allowable material to help tell your design story:

Renderings/sketches, fabric swatches, plots, production photos, ground plans and sections of research

Each item MUST reference a display card that includes the same information on the Entry Form.

ENTRY DEADLINE: MAY 10, 2024 

Monologue Competition

Guidelines:

    • Entrant must be a registered participant of the TNT Youth Conference
    • Monologues can be 1 – 2 minutes long with a 30 second grace period
    • Judge will have up to 2 minutes to give an oral critique immediately following the performance
    • Monologues can be original, published or selections from other materials, primarily spoken (not sung or rapped) and in good taste (no bad language).
    • Monologues must be memorized.
    • A chair may be used
    • The focus is on movement and dialogue and how well the actor persuades the audience that the character is in a certain setting.
    • Top 5 highest scoring monologues will perform at the Awards Assembly
    • 5 Honorable Mentions at the Awards Assembly
    • If the material is under copyright restrictions, permission to perform must be shown prior to performance.

Entry Fees:

Fees: $5 per entrant – payable by the theatre at registration.

Costumes:

No Costumes should be used

ENTRY DEADLINE: May 10, 2024

Musical Theatre Ensemble Competition

Guidelines:

    • Entrant must be a registered participant of the TNT Youth Conference.
    • Ensembles will perform their own choreographed rendition of a Broadway song.
    • Songs can be no longer than 5 minutes.
    • No set pieces may be used
    • Any props used must be hand props
    • Ensemble must provide their own music
    • Must perform to an accompaniment/karaoke track (no voices on track) with singing & dancing
    • Judge(s) will have up to 3 minutes to give an oral critique immediately following the performance
    • Top 3 highest scoring ensembles will perform at the Awards Assembly
    • 3 Honorable Mentions at the Awards Assembly

Ensemble Size:

2+ students.

No more than 5 entries per company

Entry Fees:

Fees: $10 per entry – payable by the theatre at registration.

Costumes:

Not Required.

Tech:

A 1/8” plug will be available to plug your music device into. No microphones may be used.
